Born in Hanover, New Hampshire, on October 8, 1925, Philip Booth spent much of his childhood in Castine, Maine, in a house that had been in his mother’s family for generations. He studied with Robert Frost as a freshman at Dartmouth College and obtained his M.A. in English from Columbia University.
